Podium alternative for reviews only
Podium is an all-in-one platform: messaging, phones, webchat, payments, text marketing, an AI employee and reviews, sold through sales with no public price. If reviews are the only part you need, a Podium alternative like Prisma gives you just that layer: one API to read and reply to reviews on Google, the App Store, Google Play, Judge.me and Trustpilot, with Yelp, Tripadvisor and other platforms in beta. 2 locations free, then plans from €49 a month.
What Podium is (and why reviews-only buyers overpay)
Podium’s pricing page lists its all-in-one platform: Reviews, Phones, Lead Consolidation, Website Chat, Inbox, Payments, Text Marketing, AI Employee and Automations. That bundle is the point. A dental group or a car dealer that lives in SMS gets one inbox for leads, payments and review invites.
The flip side: if your team only needs reviews in a dashboard, a data warehouse or your own app, you are buying a communication platform to use one module of it.
Podium pricing: no public figures
Podium does not publish prices or plan names. The pricing page says plans are designed to fit your business and sends you to the sales team or a demo. It mentions an optional AI Employee add-on, bulk-messaging limits and a base 10DLC fee for texting, without figures.
Why? Same logic as any suite: price depends on locations, modules, messaging volume and negotiation. Third-party sites publish estimates, but Podium doesn’t confirm them, so we don’t quote them here.
Prisma’s price is on the pricing page: Spark is free for 2 locations, Beam is €49 a month for 10, and larger plans go up to 200 locations, with 20% off on yearly billing.
The Podium API: what it covers
The Podium API is a REST API that returns JSON, documented at docs.podium.com. Its reference lists resources for:
- Reviews: reviews, review invites, review responses, review attribution
- Messenger: messages and templates
- Contacts: contacts, attributes, tags
- Payments: invoices, payments, refunds, card readers
- Platform: locations, organizations, users, appointments, campaigns, conversations, webhooks, workflows
Authentication is OAuth 2: you create an app in Podium’s developer portal, receive a client_id and client_secret, and call the API with a bearer token on behalf of a Podium user.
What this means: the Podium API is strong and broad, but it reads and writes data that lives in Podium. It assumes the business is a Podium customer.

Where Podium wins: getting new reviews. Podium’s SMS-first review invites and shared inbox are built for front-desk teams, and Prisma doesn’t send invites at all. If you also take payments by text, Podium covers that too.
Where Prisma wins: when a developer needs the reviews themselves. One key, one JSON format across Google, Trustpilot, Judge.me and both app stores, signed webhooks, and a price you can see before you sign up.
When to choose each
Choose Podium if your staff need one tool for texting customers, collecting payments and asking for reviews, and you want a vendor to set it up.
Choose Prisma if you are:
- a SaaS adding a reviews module to your product (see Prisma for SaaS),
- an agency reporting reviews for many clients,
- a multi-location brand piping reviews into BI,
- a mobile app team who wants App Store and Google Play reviews next to Google reviews.

Reading and replying with Prisma
The same two jobs most Podium review integrations do, in one format for every platform:
curl "https://api.prismareviews.com/v1/reviews?location_id=loc_123&has_reply=false" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $PRISMA_API_KEY"const res = await fetch("https://api.prismareviews.com/v1/reviews/rev_789/reply", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.PRISMA_API_KEY}`,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
"Idempotency-Key": "reply-rev_789-1",
},
body: JSON.stringify({ text: "Thanks for the kind words, Sam. See you next visit." }),
});
const review = await res.json(); // reply.status: "queued" on official-API platformsimport os, requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.prismareviews.com/v1/reviews",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['PRISMA_API_KEY']}"},
params={"location_id": "loc_123", "has_reply": "false"},
)
for review in r.json()["data"]:
print(review["platform"], review["rating"], review["text"])Yelp, Tripadvisor, Booking.com, Yotpo, REVIEWS.io and G2 have no reply API for third parties, so they are read only: a reply call there returns 422 reply_not_supported, and each review includes a url to answer it on the platform. Prisma never logs into anyone’s account to post on their behalf.
Migrate the reviews part from Podium to Prisma
- Decide what stays. Keep Podium for messaging and payments if you use them. Move only review reading and replying.
- Get a Prisma API key and read the quickstart. Test keys return sample data for every platform, so you can build first.
- Connect each location with owner or manager access: Google Business Profile and Trustpilot by OAuth, App Store with an App Store Connect API key, Google Play by inviting Prisma’s service account.
- Backfill history with
GET /v1/reviews?location_id=…&since=…. - Move replies. Replace Podium review-response calls with
POST /v1/reviews/{id}/reply. For Google specifics, see reply to Google reviews via API. - Switch to webhooks (
review.created,reply.published,reply.failed) and compare counts for one cycle before turning off the old flow.
You don’t need a Google Cloud project of your own for the Google Business Profile API: Prisma connects through its own project, and you sign in with Google as the location’s owner or manager.
FAQ
Does Podium have an API?
Yes. A REST API with OAuth 2, covering reviews, messaging, contacts, payments, webhooks and more. You register an app in Podium’s developer portal.
How much does Podium cost?
Podium doesn’t publish prices. Its pricing page sends you to sales or a demo.
Can I use the Podium API without being a Podium customer?
The API acts on behalf of a Podium user through OAuth, so the data has to live in a Podium account.
Does Prisma send review requests by SMS?
No. Prisma reads and replies to reviews. If review invites by text are your main need, Podium is a better fit.
Is Prisma a full Podium replacement?
No. Prisma only reads and replies to reviews through an API. It has no messaging, payments, phones or webchat.
Which platforms does Prisma support?
Google Business Profile, the App Store, Google Play, Judge.me and Trustpilot (beta) with replies through each platform’s official API. Yelp, Tripadvisor, Booking.com, Yotpo, REVIEWS.io and G2 are read only, in beta: they offer no reply API to third parties, so each review comes with a link to answer it on the platform.
