New review alerts: get notified of Google, Trustpilot and App Store reviews in minutes
A 1-star review that sits unanswered for a week does more damage than the review itself. Yet almost no platform tells software when a review arrives: Google only through Pub/Sub after approval, everyone else not at all. This guide covers what each platform offers natively, then five ways to build alerts that work, from a simple email to a signed webhook into your own system. The platform-by-platform facts are measured in the State of Review Platform APIs.
What the platforms give you natively
| Platform | Owner notifications | Push to software |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Email and app notifications | Notifications API on Cloud Pub/Sub, after API access approval |
| App Store, Google Play | Email digests in the consoles | None; poll the API (Play: last 7 days only) |
| Trustpilot | Email, dashboard | Webhooks exist for business users on plans with the API module |
| Yelp, Tripadvisor, Booking.com | Email, dashboard | None; no owner API at all |
| Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox, Okendo | App notifications, email | Judge.me and Yotpo offer webhooks on some plans; others none |
| Page notifications | None (ratings API removed in Graph v22) |
So every multi-platform alert system is a scheduler plus a notifier. The question is whether you run it or someone does.
1. Email, no code: a digest from the dashboard
The lowest-effort option: a daily email per location with the new reviews, rating, text and link to answer. Good for a single business; useless for a 40-location chain, where it becomes noise. Most review-management suites (Birdeye, ReviewTrackers, Podium) do this well; so does a simple n8n or Zapier flow (below) ending in an email node.
2. Slack, per location, in minutes: n8n
The n8n community node has a trigger that fires per new review across 50+ platforms. Trigger → IF rating ≤ 2 → Slack message to the location’s channel with author, text and the link to answer; else → thank-you queue. The full workflow, importable, with Google, App Store and Trustpilot in one flow: new review alerts in Slack. Self-hosted n8n works today; n8n Cloud once the node is verified.
3. Zapier or Make: a catch hook
Register a Zapier or Make webhook URL with POST /v1/webhooks, fetch the review with one HTTP step (the event carries ids, not text), filter by rating, post to Slack, Teams, email, a sheet or a ticket. Setup in both tools.
4. Your own endpoint: the signed webhook
For a product, the webhook goes straight to your backend:
curl -X POST https://api.prismareviews.com/v1/webhooks \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $PRISMA_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"url": "https://yourapp.com/webhooks/prisma", "events": ["review.created", "reply.failed", "reply.unknown"]}'Each delivery is a POST with a Prisma-Signature header (t=<unix>,v1=<HMAC-SHA256> of <timestamp>.<body> with the secret shown once at registration), retried with exponential backoff (30 s, doubling, up to an hour) on any non-2xx, and every retry keeps the same event id, so de-duplicate on it. Then GET /v1/reviews/{id} for the content. Reference and verification code in Node and Python: webhooks.
5. Polling, if you must
If you can’t expose an endpoint, poll GET /v1/reviews?since=<last run> every few minutes; since compares the time the review was written, and pagination is cursor-based. One call covers every platform, so polling once is cheaper than polling six APIs.
Honest timing
Alerts are only as fresh as the sync. Through official APIs (App Store, Google Play, Judge.me, Trustpilot, eBay and the rest) Prisma checks daily on the free plan and more often on paid plans, and sends the webhook the moment a review is synced. Public-page platforms (Yelp, Tripadvisor, Booking.com, OpenTable…) are read every 6 to 24 hours depending on plan (how often Prisma checks). Google reviews come from the Google Maps listing today, read-only, while Google reviews Prisma’s Business Profile API application; Pub/Sub push follows that approval.
What to do with the alert
- 1 and 2 stars: a human, within the hour, with the link. Never an automatic reply.
- 3 stars: a human, same day.
- 4 and 5 stars: a templated or AI-drafted thank-you, approved in bulk, published by API where the platform allows it (replies).
- Every review: a row in your warehouse or sheet, so the alert isn’t the only record (Google reviews to Google Sheets).
FAQ
Does Google notify you of new reviews by API?
Only through the Business Profile Notifications API with a Cloud Pub/Sub topic you run, after Google approves your API access. The Business Profile app and email notifications exist for owners, but not for software. No other review platform pushes new reviews to third parties.
How fast can a new-review alert be?
It depends on the platform. Where there is an official API, Prisma polls daily or faster by plan and sends the webhook the moment a review is synced; public-page platforms such as Yelp or Tripadvisor are read every 6 to 24 hours depending on plan. No platform except Google offers true real-time push.
Can I get alerts only for negative reviews?
Yes. The webhook carries the review id; fetch the review and route on rating (1 and 2 stars to a manager, 4 and 5 to a thank-you flow). In n8n, Zapier or Make it’s one filter step.
One webhook for every new review, on every platform.
2 locations free. Test keys send sample reviews to your endpoint within minutes.
